back up

July 2nd, 2008

So, in my last update, I mentioned that I was laid off.

Well, I am laid off no longer! Very happy.

Hopefully that will mean that music will start up again. We are always getting together for the Seaholm Electric stuff, which is coming along great, but I do miss doing my own stuff. I just haven’t been in the mood to do it. But now that life is getting back on track, that will change!

time off!

June 4th, 2008

Hrm… as you might have guessed, I am taking some time off.

Things took an interesting turn at work (ie: there is no more work!) and it’s a bit hard to make music when you’re not in the right mood.

I have been collecting a nice group of guitar driven songs lately. I said I was going to start doing it, and I did! If the universe is my friend (let’s go universe!), hopefully I’ll be back up and creating new songs in no time. In the meantime, here is a song -

Bending Fall

October 28th, 2007

Fall is taking place as we speak.
Finally!

So, last time I wrote that songs for the new CD were done, but none of them were mixed, mastered, or ordered. Also none of the artwork was done. Well, all of that is done now - should be since it’s been 3 months.
I also wrote about video work. Yeah, well, nothing has been accomplished on that front.

New things in the works include:
1. New songs under the Get name in the works. Ambient, guitar influenced, vocals - good stuff.
2. Getting into circuit bending. I’ve only just begun and haven’t actually bent anything yet, but I am hoping to and to use some of the instruments in some Seaholm songs as well as my solo stuff.

has it been so long?

July 30th, 2007

wow!
I didn’t realize how long it has been since my last post.
Things have been going along just fine, I guess life just caught up with me or something.
(lame excuse)
So…
Update time!
1. All of the songs are done for the new cd. Done as in recorded. Now I just have to put them in an order, mix and master them, do the art for the case, burn the discs, place them in a few stores, give some to friends, etc.
2. Videos are in the works. Taking me (much) longer than I expected to do the first one. Mostly because I haven’t put in the proper time and effort.

There is a strong possibilty that this will be the last SCU release for awhile. I’ve got a few other song styles in my head that I want to explore. Doing all this work with Seaholm Electric has me wanting to write some “real” songs. btw - We’re recording a few Seaholm Electric songs as we speak. So far, the first song sounds great!

The end of the year

December 30th, 2006

As you may (or may not) know, I am also the keyboardist for The Swells. Last night, Friday December 29th, was our annual Christmas party. It’s always great fun and everyone always has a grand time. Except I always end up feeling like I want to die the next day. You’d think that after so many years of drinking experience, that I would know better. It’s really fun when you’re in the middle of it, but it always sucks ass the next morning.
The Swells have really taken up alot of my music time and energy lately, so my plan of putting out a new SCU disc has been pushed back to later rather than sooner. I still have a good, solid six songs, but I’d much rather have 10 or more. As in a full length rather than an E.P.. What I need to do, is get off my butt and do all of this for real.
Of course now that I just got through making excuses as to why I am no closer to anymore SCU songs, I have, however, recorded two Swells cover songs and plan to do an entire CD length of more songs. It’s not the SCU sound, as in there are guitars and singing, but you can tell that it’s still me. I’ll post a song or two and let people hear what I am coming up with. I enjoy it, and I know you will too.
Also, I bought a video camera and I have a strong interest in doing music videos so expect to see some on the site soon.

Hey! Isn’t Thanksgiving coming up soon? You bet it is.
I love Thanksgiving… even as a vegetarian there is too much too eat.

Still moving ahead with the upcoming release.
Picked out a name for the CD, working on the artwork, writing and recording songs… the works.

Math song

October 14th, 2006

Part of the weirdness that is my job is that, occasionally, I get to do a song for one of our media pieces. This time, the song is all about measuring volume. We’re doing a math course this go ’round. Now, the song type was going to be slow trip-hop, but after I laid it all out it was well over the two minute mark - try 3:30. So, I had to up the BPM from 70 to close to 90. Which threw the trip out of my hop and put me much more into the R&B range. Which I guess is not really a bad thing because we are making music for middle schoolers and they do listen to the radio and this style is getting radio play. Still, it’s always a bit of a drag when your idea gets tossed because of strange writting.
Oh well. It still sounds cool and it’ll all be ok in the end.

new red bag!

October 7th, 2006

Since I bought the Nord, I have been worried that I was going to break it during transport. So, I was looking to buy a case for it. I looked at our local music store and found one that was a bit too expensive, but it had a lot of extra pouches and was well built too. But it was just about an inch too small. I had to stretch the bag and squeeze the synth in to make it fit, which I wasn’t really fond of.
I ended up finding a Nord specific bag made by Clavia so I knew it would fit well. Plus it had shoulder straps so I could wear it like a backpack. It arrived today and it was all it was supposed to be! I am really happy with it!
Thumbs up!

Strikes again…

October 3rd, 2006

The addition of the new Nord makes it mark and basically writes a song itself. Well… I helped a little.
Also, I started on the artwork for the CD.
